Sketches

From my recent tutorial, I followed the advice I received from Lisa in creating more original gargoyles, and pushing them further into the grotesque and comedic. I sat down for a weekend and focused on drawing and drawing until something interesting emerged. I started looking at the idea of jesters and clowns and translating this into a gargoyle phase. I really like the outcome of this concept as the play is a black comedy and the idea of a clown can be twisted into something grotesquely comedic, or something that provokes an unsure response whether to laugh or cry.
Many gargoyles we carved pulling or contorting their facial features, and I found this useful to think about while creating a response in my drawings by exaggerating the features.
