I begun the making process of the first gargoyle by making a basic chicken wire and polystyrene armature, that i stuffed with newspaper for support, and to also keep the sculpture nice and light, as it will be interacted with and moved around the stage. With this in mind, and using my previous making skills, i designed the models to be light, yet sturdy enough to withstand any accidental knocks. When constructing the armature, i had to think carefully about the weight distribution of the model, so as it wouldn't tip over, due to being too heavy on one side.
Once I had completed this structure, I began to apply plaster bandages in a thin layer over the entire model. This made it a secure base to work on top of and support the rest of the detail I had yet to apply.
